Make me a damn SPICY martini!

OK we need to talk about this because I'm tired of going into bars and restaurants that seem to be on top of it ... yet don't even have a martini that even OPRAH... (OPRAH for crying out loud!) likes and recommends people to try...

I'm talking about none other than one of my favorite and very hard to find drinks.. the Passion Chili Martini

I must say that after trying one at The Satai one evening I was hooked.. Ever since I have tried ordering them in a plethora of places.. and I typically get weird looks.. followed by "uhhhhhhh, let me ask if we have that" or " umm, I'm sorry a what?"

Now people, seriously, if you intend to be a hip restaurant, bar, locale, (and such as), don't you think you should be on top of the latest drink and food trends.. that would be like me working for Bergdorf Goodman and not knowing that Blue is the new Black for menswear in SS09!

Here is an instructional video for all you bartenders watching...

and if you don't want to take my word for it ...
take Oprah's then

so do me a favor peeps... go out tonight.. look at your bartender (slash) server in the eye and say

"Give me damn Passion Chili Martini!"

if they say they don't have anything of a sort

simply ... turn around (stand up) and walk the hell away

That's one of the most absurd things I've heard in quite some time. Food/drinks are not like clothing in the way in which you made the comparison. If you follow any of the food/cocktail blogs, you'll immediately notice the almost countless new and creative creations being posted by the hour! The clothing industry has not and can not ever be compared to it in this way!

I take issue only because I feel it exhibits a fundamental misunderstanding about the way the food industry operates. As far as I'm concerned, bars/restaurants should ALWAYS be taken to task if they can't (or don't know how to) make the CLASSICS. But asking them to keep up w/the latest trend on "The View" is quite unrealistic to say the least.

Nevertheless I appreciate your passion for the so-called "Passion Chili martini." You haven't posted the recipe for it, but it seems to closely resemble a drink I created a while ago that I call the "Dragon Tail," the recipe for which you can find here: http://www.umamimart.com/2008/08/chile-pepper-infused-vodka-and-dragon.html

Though I'm not aware of the makings of the "Passion Chili Martini," I can confidently assure you this is far an away tastier.

A final note: a Martini essentially consists of gin or vodka, vermouth, and (sometimes) bitters, shaken or stirred--that's it. The rest are cocktails, but certainly not Martinis. This is an indelible fact that no current trend or fad--no matter how important it's considered to be by people like Oprah--can ever deny.

  3. Well living in a city such as Miami that strives on 'Trends' of all kinds: music, fashion, and yes FOOD and Drinks; I believe that it's just peculiar when restaurants and bars that advertise as being on top of their game don't offer drinks that have become the 'trend' in the market... I have actually asked for the spicy martini several places here in Miami and they are hard to find, but in Miami Beach almost all bars offer the drink as it has become very popular.

I can totally understand what he is saying in this remark; So I must agree with J.

  4. Well thanx for the comments guys.. I am totally not a food connoisseur I am merely expressing my liking for The Passion Chili Martini.. and difficulty to find a good one in the main land (not miami beach, that is)

I've actually recently had another great martini.. The Barbarossa which is awesome and even better than the passion chili...

as far as it comes to the recipe I didn't post it because they give it in the video I posted (with Oprah-- that's where the that comment came from 'even oprah likes it') so I found it to be redundant to re-post, again remember I'm not dedicated to giving recipes like other blogs... and unfortunately I guess we must agree to disagree in terms of food trends.. especially because I believe that food and drinks can be as much of a trend as any other thing.. but of course you don't need to agree with me that's just my opinion.. I appreciate your enthusiasm towards this though .. so thanx ;-)

  5. I mean no disrespect, but Paystyle's secondary comment went unremarked and is entirely valid: this isn't a martini. It's a cocktail. There's nothing wrong with a cocktail and I like them a great deal, so can we please call cocktails "cocktails" and leave the martini to its very specific definition?

That being said, thanks for sharing this and I'm looking forward to giving this recipe a try this weekend.
